Injection Moulding
Injection moulding is the main process for producing plastic parts. The process starts with granules being melted until soft and then while under pressure they are injected to fill the mould. The result is that the shape is exactly copied. This is why it’s a great process for producing large volumes of identical parts. Once the plastic moulding has cooled sufficiently to harden, the injection moulding machine opens therefore releasing the part. The whole process is then repeated and can be used for both high precision engineering components right through to disposable consumer goods.
The majority of thermoplastics are processed by injection moulding and count for most of all the plastic products. It’s typical to find that virtually all sectors of manufacturing use injection moulded parts in one way or another, and here are the typical materials used to do so;
- Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene ABS
- Nylon PA
- Polycarbonate PC
- Polypropylene PP
- Polystyrene GPPS
Due to the flexibility of injection moulding, various plastic shapes and sizes and even the most difficult of designs to be transformed into a plastic part.
