The History of Plastic Moulding

img

As a plastic moulding company, CJ Tool and Mouldings are fascinated by the history and evolution of the processes used in modern day production. Plastic moulding has expanded the boundaries of modern invention and design, we therefore have produced a short article on the history.

In 1868, a British man called John Wyatt, was set the task of producing the design for a more efficient and uniformed billiard ball. John and his team created the first plastic moulding machine by 1872 and achieved the creation through injecting celluloid into a mould. Although the machine has developed dramatically since then, the machine was simple to use and produced parts such as buttons and combs.

In 1946, a man named James Hendry built the first screw injection moulding machine with an auger design. This replaced Wyatt’s plunger, and the auger was then placed within the cylinder in order to mix the plastic moulding material before injection. This technique is commonly used even within modern machines to this date.

Plastic moulding has allowed us to produce more accurately for plastic parts, this is achieved through the modern technology of computers and this is why there is a large number of products on the market. Through sleeker plastic moulding machines we can achieve greater control over the speed and quality of the plastic products produced.

Our primary focus is our customers and our personal approach sees us build lasting partnerships. Our full range of plastic injection moulding services within the UK include; designtooling, moulding and assembly
